BACILOS estrena nuevo EP: CUPIDO Y COMPAÑÍA

BACILOS estrena nuevo EP: CUPIDO Y COMPAÑÍA

MIAMI (May 6, 2020) – The GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY®-winning trio Bacilos today premieres its EP titled Cupido y Compañía (Cupid & Co.) available from all digital-music outlets.

On the heels of their recent hits “Por Hacerme El Bueno” (Because I Behaved), “Perderme Contigo” (Lose Myself With You) and “Carta a Cupido” (Letter to Cupid), which have a combined over 100 million views and streams, Bacilos offers up this five-song EP focused on love and breakups. It includes the aforementioned “Carta a Cupido” in its original and mariachi versions, as well as three new recordings – “El Broche Dorado” (The Golden Brooch), “Te Creí” (I Believed You) and “Me Gustas Tú” (I’m Attracted to You).

With fresh and rhythmic vibes, these songs represent a stylistic evolution for Bacilos, while maintaining the group’s signature lyricism and joy.

Bacilos’ Colombian lead singer Jorge Villamizar says the EP’s title relates to Cupid being the common protagonist of all the songs’ stories, which deal with aspects of love from the first spark all the way to the breakup. And failed love is the theme of the quasi-title track “Carta a Cupido,” written by Jorge Villamizar and Alejandro Gonzalez, which imagines a letter to Cupid asking for an explanation.

Group percussionist JJ Freire, of Puerto Rico, notes that this EP finds the band incorporating new rhythms, such as the mariachi version of “Carta a Cupido.” This mix is produced by Luis Barrera Jr., who along with the band was so impressed with the vocal performance of the original version, that they chose to use it for the ranchera version as well.

Bacilos’ bass player and Brazil native André Lopes adds that “Te Creí” represents the first time that the band has used the cavaquinho, a traditional Brazilian stringed instrument.

In sum, Cupido y Compañía is an eclectic little treasure produced by Felipe Mejía, Alberto Hernandez, Luis Barrera Jr. and Ahmed Barroso.

Bacilos is looking forward to introducing these songs for their fans to enjoy and dance to at home during this era that we are all living through.

The group promises to resume its tour of USA, Latin America and Europe as soon as it’s safe. Meanwhile, Bacilos is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year by re-recording its most beloved hits with a brilliant array of guest artists – more details of this project will be announced soon.
