MIAMI (4 de mayo de 2022) – El ícono global de la música, Carlos Vives, continúa calentando motores para presentar su nuevo viaje musical con Cumbiana II. Hoy estrena su nueva canción y video “Babel” junto al legendario artista argentino Fito Páez. En el tema, Vives hace un homenaje al rock argentino que siempre lo ha influenciado y habla de una problemática social presente hoy en día. Bajo el sello Sony Music Latin, “Babel” ya está disponible en todas las plataformas digitales.
Compuesto por Carlos Vives y Fito Páez y bajo la producción de Carlos Vives, Fito Páez y Kogiman, dúo conformado por Martín Velilla y Andrés Leal; junto a ellos Diego Olivero. “Babel” es un tema que habla sobre lo difícil que es para el ser humano entenderse ya que en estos tiempos todo el mundo quiere tener la razón y al final, el tren los sigue dejando porque cada uno va por un camino diferente.
“Cuando haces una canción con este tipo de temática hay algo de ese Rock Argentino, de Charly García, Luis Alberto Spinetta y el propio Paéz, quienes me permitieron imaginar que con la música tropical podía inventar mi propio rock. Con “Babel” no solo le hago un homenaje a ese rock, también es una oda al entendimiento entre países y cultura, a un mundo que puede ser posible gracias a la música”, expresó Vives, quien unió la cumbia con el rock argentino en esta icónica colaboración.
El video musical fue dirigido por Sergio Rodríguez y Carlos Andrés Valencia de Mestiza Films, y filmado entre Bogotá y Santa Marta (cerca a la Ciénaga) . Mientras el mundo vive una guerra sin tregua, en donde las personas no se escuchan entre sí, en los visuales se puede observar cómo una niña percibe todo lo que ocurre a su alrededor; confundida, triste y tomando acción para que el futuro sea diferente. Siguiendo la línea de la canción, la protagonista inspira a sus padres y al público a subirse juntos al tren y ser parte del verdadero cambio en el mundo. A lo largo del video se pueden observar instrumentos clásicos del Rock como la guitarra eléctrica, el bajo, y también la típica gaita de Mayte Montero, la flauta de millo, entre otros sonidos que ofrece Vives para entrar al mundo de Cumbiana II. ¡Disfruta del video musical en el canal de YouTube de Carlos Vives!
Estos pasados días, Vives regresó triunfante a México y Centroamérica con 4 conciertos impresionantes en Aguascalientes (México), Panamá, El Salvador y Costa Rica, en donde más de 70 mil personas cantaron junto a Vives sus más grandes éxitos y vivieron un show inolvidable en todos los sentidos. El ícono fue sorprendido por la leyenda de la salsa Marc Anthony en Aguascalientes (México) y, además, tuvo como artistas invitados a Mau y Ricky en su concierto de Costa Rica.
Anterior a “Babel”, y como preámbulo a la salida de “Cumbiana II”, Vives lanzó su tema “Solo”, en donde proyecta la diversidad y contradicción del ser humano: la canción es triste por la historia que relata pero alegre, a la misma vez, por el ritmo y los sonidos que incluye. “Este tema es una tusa, como llaman en Colombia al despecho, pero también fue un experimento con las gaitas y el sonido tīpico de la Sierra Nevada. Con esta canción, como lo que pueden esperar del álbum, es un viaje por diferentes géneros en los que se conecta nuestra cultura”, expresó Carlos Vives.
Por otra parte, anteriormente Carlos Vives se unió a su compatriota Camilo para lanzar el tema “Baloncito Viejo”, que continúa en la posición #1 en Colombia por sexta semana consecutiva. El hit también ha liderado las primeras posiciones en toda Latinoamérica. Este sencillo, que formará parte de Cumbiana II, supera además, los 10 Millones de vistas en YouTube y las reproducciones superan los 20 millones.
Recientemente, se estrenó la serie de Netflix “Pálpito”, en donde Vives hace una aparición musical emotiva con su icónica canción “Volví a Nacer”, y actualmente es la serie No. 1 en la plataforma a nivel global.

MIAMI (May 4, 2022) – Global music icon Carlos Vives continues to build excitement around his anticipated new album release, Cumbiana II, on May 13. Today, he unveils his new single and video “Babel” alongside legendary Argentine artist Fito Páez. With this song, Vives pays tribute to a genre that’s influenced his career and also delivers a message surrounding social issues today. Released under Sony Music Latin, “Babel” is now available on all digital platforms.
The song was written by Vives and Páez, who produced the track with Kogiman (Andrés Leal and Martín Velilla) and Diego Olivero. “Babel” discusses the negative effects that stubbornness and pride can have on humans. The song alludes to a train that makes different stops, with people getting off, continuing on their own individual path.
“When you create a song with this kind of theme there are hints of Argentine Rock. Whether it be from Charly García, Luis Alberto Pinetta, and even Paez, they have all allowed me to imagine that with tropical music I can make my own rock music. In ‘Babel‘, I don’t want to just honor rock, it’s also an ode to all countries and cultures that make it possible to have a world full of music,” expressed Vives, who fuses cumbia and argentine rock on this iconic collaboration.
Directed by Sergio RodrÍguez and Carlos Andrés Valencia from Mestiza Films and filmed between Bogotá and Santa Marta (close to ‘La Ciénaga’), the music video follows a dystopian world that is going through a war. The visuals follow a little girl as she notices what is happening around her and decides to take action to create a better future for everyone. Following the lyrics of the song, the main character inspires her parents and the public to get on a train and be a part of the change. Throughout the video, sounds from instruments used in classic Rock can be heard such as the electric guitar and the bass guitar. Other instruments such as the typical gaita from Mayte Montero, the flauta de millo, among others were used by Vives showcase the different sound that will encompass Cumbiana II. Most recently, Vives conquered audiences with 4 impressive concerts held in Aguascalientes, Mexico, Panama, El Salvador and Costa Rica, where more than 70K were in attendance. The global music icon was surprised on stage by Salsa legend Marc Anthony in Aguascalientes, Mexico and had a special appearance from Mau y Ricky at his concert in Costa Rica.
“Babel” was released on the heels of Vives’ track “Solo,” where he projects the diversity and contradiction of the human being: the song is sad because of the story it tells but happy, at the same time, because of the rhythm and the sounds that it includes. Prior to this, Vives collaborated with fellow Colombian Camilo to release “Baloncito Viejo”, which continues to hold at #1 in Colombia for the sixth consecutive week and top charts throughout Latin America. Also part of Cumbiana II, this single has over 10 million YouTube views and over 20 million cumulative streams.
Most recently, Vives made a special musical appearance on the Netflix series “The Marked Heart” (Pálpito) which is currently the platform’s No. 1 trending series globally. On the series, he performed his iconic global hit “Volví a Nacer”.
