El grupo tres-veces nominado al Latin GRAMMY® NEGRONI’S TRIO lanza su álbum ESPERANZAS

MIAMI (8 de octubre de 2021) – Una de las bandas más prolíficas del panorama moderno de jazz, el grupo tres-veces nominado al Latin GRAMMY® Negroni’s Trio siempre se ha esforzado por documentar diligentemente su música, así dándonos 10 aclamados álbumes que demuestran el gran alcance de las cualidades del grupo y su compromiso de crear una estética grupal. Su onceavo álbum Esperanzas continúa este hilo de excelencia, capturando este ensamble en su punto. Esperanzas sigue los pasos de su aclamado lanzamiento Acústico (2019), y nos deleita con actuaciones musicales del padre e hijo José Negroni y Nomar Negroni, los co-fundadores del trío, acompañados por su entrañable bajista Josh Allen.

Según el baterista y percusionista Nomar Negroni, “Esta música fue grabada con sentimientos de simpatía hacia la humanidad, por eso le bautizamos Esperanzas. Como meta mayor, el grupo pretende empoderar a las personas a ser audaces en sus vidas. Queremos recordarles que vivir con autenticidad en todo les llena el alma de alegría”.
Más de la mitad del disco es conformado por temas inéditos de la autoría del pianista José Negroni quien se acerca al oficio de la composición de forma directa. Negroni asegura que “¡No me gusta esperar la llegada de la musa! Me defino como un trabajador de la composición. Cuando se plantea un nuevo proyecto, ya estoy consciente de que tengo que sentarme en el piano y ponerme a trabajar. Siempre es un momento memorable cuando puedo escuchar mis composiciones ejecutadas por el trío. Es una sensación incomparable”.
Las canciones originales destacan la habilidad única del trío de demostrar sus amplias habilidades. En la alegre primera canción, “Qué Felicidad”, el trío de inmediato establece el ambiente de esta propuesta. Este tema también demuestra la unión musical de los integrantes, quienes ejecutan los múltiples giros y vueltas de la canción como profesionales consumados.
El grupo eligió a los artistas invitados con astucia. La canción que da nombre al disco empieza con una breve rumiación impresionista en el piano antes de que entre la sección rítmica para tocar el comienzo de la melodía. Lo más destacado es cuando esta textura sónica es aumentada por el clarinetista Ismael Vergara, mezclándose perfectamente con el piano, creando un timbre magnífico.
El atmosférico “Osvaldo” encuentra al grupo explorando un estado de ánimo, con Allen haciendo figuras con el arco en la introducción. Para esta pieza, el grupo se enfoca en seguir el material escrito con desempeño. José Negroni explica, “Un momento importante de esta grabación fue cuando decidimos realizar ‘Osvaldo’ sin solos. La composición estaba dedicada a mi padre, era un hombre muy cariñoso, alegre y respetuoso pero muy metódico y nunca improvisó sus decisiones en la vida”.
Para “How High The Moon”, clásico del cancionero norteamericano, el trío le dio un tratamiento sorprendente. La banda mezcla el rock progresivo con tintes de Moog e inusitadas signaturas de compás para luego entablar un vibrante ritmo latino que cuenta con el renombrado músico Ed Calle en saxo tenor.
Un punto culminante de estas sesiones es “Encadenados”, donde la intérprete española María Toledo aporta sus influencias de bulería para refrescar y dar una nueva perspectiva a este bolero clásico. Los arreglos de cuerdas proporcionan un ambiente encantador. José Negroni explica el proceso: “Normalmente cuando terminamos de hacer los arreglos, el trío empieza a grabar los temas inéditos y los clásicos, después elegimos a los invitados según el concepto que le corresponda a cada canción”.
Para cerrar el álbum, “Mis Recuerdos” da una mirada hacia los sucesos del 2020, poniendo el trío en el marco de una balada suave en compañía de un cuarteto de cuerda. Escuchar el desvanecer de las últimas notas es sentir el mensaje de esperanza e inspiración de una forma profunda.
Complejo y hermoso en su diversidad, Esperanzas es la más reciente propuesta de una banda veterana que tiene una química natural, una que otorga mayor importancia a la identidad y el concepto del grupo por encima de las acrobacias y la ostentación. Un soplo de aire fresco, Esperanzas seguramente hará las delicias de todos los oyentes.

Negroni’s Trio cuenta con suficiente experiencia musical para cautivar a cualquier melómano. El grupo es conformado por José Negroni (piano y teclados) y su hijo Nomar Negroni (batería y percusiones) en compañía de diferentes bajistas de renombre en sus grabaciones y actuaciones en vivo. El equipo Negroni ha trabajado desde el 2002 como co-fundadores y co-productores para formar un ensamble de músicos maestros quienes crean su sonido propio con los clásicos de jazz, Latin jazz y jazz fusión. MIAMI (October 8, 2021) – One of the most prolific bands in the modern jazz landscape, the three-time Latin GRAMMY®-nominated group Negroni’s Trio has made a point throughout the years to diligently document their music, resulting in a stream of over ten celebrated releases that showcase the broad scope of the group’s strengths and their commitment to creating a group aesthetic. Their eleventh album Esperanzas is no exception to this tradition of excellence as it is a powerful document of an ensemble at the height of their prowess. On Esperanzas, which is a follow up to their lauded 2019 release Acústico, trio co-founders and father-son team José Negroni and Nomar Negroni reunite with stalwart bassist Josh Allen.

According to drummer Nomar Negroni, “This music was recorded with a feeling of compassion for humanity which is why we titled it Esperanzas.” As a larger goal, the group aims to empower people to be bold in their lives. “We want to remind them that authenticity in everything one does in life fills your soul with joy,” Nomar Negroni adds.
More than half of the album is made up of original compositions by pianist José Negroni who adopts a straight-forward approach to the craft of composing. “I don’t like to wait for the muse to arrive!” Negroni asserts, “I like to call myself a composition worker. When a new project comes along, I already know that I have to sit at the piano and get to work. It is always a memorable moment when I listen to my compositions played by the trio. It is an unbeatable feeling.”
The original tunes highlight the trio’s unique ability to showcase their considerable skill and wide-ranging musical prowess. On the bright opener “Qué Felicidad,” the trio immediately succeeds at establishing the tone for the proceedings. The track serves as a perfect showcase for the trio’s cohesion as a band with its members expertly negotiating the composition’s many shifts and turns.
The group was astute in choosing the album’s featured guests. The title track starts with a short impressionistic rumination on the piano before the rhythm section comes in to play the beginning of the melody. A highlight is when this sonic texture is augmented by clarinetist Ismael Vergara, blending in perfectly with the piano, creating a gorgeous timbre.
The atmospheric “Osvaldo” finds the group exploring a mood, with Allen bowing figures on the intro. For this piece, the group focuses on rendering a strong performance of the written material. José Negroni explains, “An important moment in this recording was when we decided to do ‘Osvaldo’ with no solos. The composition was dedicated to my father, he was a very loving, cheerful and respectful man but very methodical and never improvised his decisions in life.”
The treatment of the standard “How High The Moon” is anything but traditional. The band launches into a cross between progressive rock with moog synths and odd meters just before settling into a bouncy Latin groove over which veteran tenorist Ed Calle shines playing through the form of the song.
A highlight of the session can be found on “Encadenados,” in which the buleria inspired vocals of María Toledo give the Bolero classic a major lift and a new perspective on the genre, while the string arrangement creates a delightful pillowy support. José Negroni explains the process: “Usually when we finish the arrangements, the trio begins to record the original songs and standards and we then choose the guests according to the concept of each theme.”
The album closer “Mis Recuerdos,” a reflection on the events of 2020, features the trio in a gentle ballad augmented by string quartet. While listening to the last notes of the track subtly fading out, one can feel the message of hope and uplift being driven home.
Complex and beautiful in its diversity, Esperanzas is the latest offering from a seasoned band that functions like a well-oiled machine – one that places a higher premium on group identity and concept over acrobatics and flashiness. A sign of the musical maturity of its members and a breath of fresh air, Esperanzas will surely delight all listeners.

Most recently Jose has chosen to express his musical genius through a trio of master musicians that he and his son Nomar have painstakingly assembled and is now well-known in the industry around the world. Nomar followed in his father’s footsteps and developed into a master musician in his own right. Nomar is a consummate percussionist a scholarship winner to The Berklee College of Music where he formally enhanced his notable skills and has worked on major projects with many internationally celebrated musicians such as Alejandro Sanz, Arturo Sandoval, Dr. Ed Calle & Oz Noy, to name only a few.
