MIAMI (10 de mayo, 2019) – La aclamada
artista puertorriqueña iLe acaba de lanzar su segundo álbum Almadura, que
sigue los pasos de iLevitable, su debut en solitario que ganó el
GRAMMY®.
Almadura no solamente
puede significar “alma dura”, sino también “armadura”,
cambiando la r por la l en alusión a la pronunciación puertorriqueña. El álbum
es co-producido por su pareja Ismael Cancel y cuenta con la dirección creativa
de sus hermanos Milena Pérez Joglar y Gabriel Cabra.
Conformado por 12 temas, el disco
incluye la canción “Déjame Decirte“, una colaboración con el
legendario pianista neoyorkino Eddie Palmieri.
“Mi disco debut se trataba de
reconocer daños y vulnerabilidades, dándonos cuenta de que no son debilidades,
sino signos de fortaleza“, iLe afirmó en una
entrevista con Rolling Stone. “Ahora con ‘Almadura’, liberamos esa
fuerza y valentía“.
Su reciente sencillo “Temes”
plantea un cuestionamiento serio y directo hacia el machismo. En el video musical,
dirigido por Milena, escenas íntimas revelan una historia de agresión hiriente. iLe pregunta
– sin titubeos – “¿por qué me temes?”.
“La canción ‘Temes’ no tiene
nada que ver con el romance“, iLe asegura. “Es
un bolero desafiante que expone uno de los puntos ciegos más oscuros del
patriarcado: el machismo que es una expresión de poder, es una reacción de
miedo débil y horrorosa“.
“Temes” siguió al
primer sencillo, “Odio“, que
recuerda los asesinatos del Cerro Maravilla, hechos ocurridos un 25 de julio de
1978 en esa zona montañosa de Puerto Rico, donde dos jóvenes independentistas
fueron abatidos a tiros por agentes de las fuerzas del orden, hecho que fue
encubierto por el gobierno estadounidense y el puertorriqueño.
“Odio” habla
de como podemos extinguir el odio que nos destroza. “Todavía estamos
manipulados por el odio que alimentamos. Si queremos vivir en un mundo guiado
por el amor, debemos hacer el esfuerzo de mirar hacia dentro y estar dispuestos
a encontrarnos en nuestros semejantes“, apuntó.

MIAMI (May 10, 2019) –
Puerto Rican star iLe has released her sophomore album ‘Almadura‘. The album follows her
GRAMMY®-winning breakthrough debut iLevitable.
‘ Almadura,’ meaning
“strong soul,” is a Puerto Rican play on the word
“armadura.”
The album was
co-produced by her longtime partner Ismael Cancel and includes her siblings
Milena Perez Joglar and Gabriel Cabra as creative directors. The 12 song album
features the legendary pianist Eddie Palmieri as a special guest on the track
“Déjame Decirte.”
“My first
album was about recognizing hurts and vulnerabilities and realizing that those
aren’t weaknesses, but signs of strength,” iLe told
Rolling Stone. “Now with ‘Almadura,’ we release that strength, and courage.”
iLe‘s recent single “Temes” presented a somber,
direct questioning of machismo. In the video directed by iLe‘s
sister Milena, intimate camera shots reveal a story of painful
aggression. iLe questions – point blank – “why do you fear
me?” She redefined machismo as a psychological expression of terror.
“The
song ‘Temes’ has nothing to do with romance,” iLe explains.
“Instead it is a defiant bolero that exposes one of patriarchy’s
darkest blind spots: ‘machismo’ is more than an expression of power, it is a
weak and horrifying reaction of fear.”
“Temes”
followed last year’s single “Odio“; the
song’s official video recreated an important moment in Puerto Rican history –
the Cerro Maravilla massacre and government cover-up of 1978. Cerro Maravilla
is widely considered to be one of the biggest assassination cover-ups by the
Puerto Rican and U.S. governments in which two young pro-independence activists
were murdered in a police ambush.
“Odio” looks
at how we can all kill the hate that destroys us. “We are still manipulated
by the hate that we feed,” iLe says. “If we
want to live in a world guided by love, we have to make the effort to look
within, and be willing to find ourselves in our fellow human beings.”
