NATALIA LAFOURCADE comparte su emotiva versión de “ALFONSINA Y EL MAR”
MIAMI (26 de marzo de 2021) – Tras recibir un GRAMMY® por Mejor Álbum de Regional Mexicano y otro Latin GRAMMY® por Mejor Álbum gracias a Un canto por México Vol. 1, la cantante, compositora, productora y multinstrumentista Natalia Lafourcade comparte el audio + video de “Alfonsina y El Mar”, como un gran homenaje a la mujer.
Para este nuevo lanzamiento y en homenaje a las mujeres, Natalia compartió el siguiente texto-manifiesto:
Desde pequeña escuché esta canción en el piano, mi padre la interpretó, mi madre también. Siempre traté de cantarla, pero era difícil. Me limité a simplemente escucharla cada vez y disfrutar de los efectos que producía siempre en mi ser. Cada poro en mí abría sus puertas cuando la escuchaba y mi cuerpo se erizaba mientras Mercedes Sosa volaba en su voz. Una de mis canciones favoritas de todos los tiempos: Alfonsina y el mar. En este mes, quise hacer homenaje a la hermosa mujer Alfonsina Storni y su trágica historia. También quise hacerle un homenaje a la vida, a la feminidad, a su fuerza, a su amor, a su pasión, a su dulzura y coraje, al dolor que tantas mujeres llevan en el vientre y en lo más profundo del alma.
En esta canción quise bailar para el mar porque la danza es una disciplina artística que tanto he querido practicar a través de los tiempos, sin lograrlo por una u otra razón. Esta vez, quise bailar, bailar, bailar con el mar porque si no lo hacía era posible que perdiera la cordura. Como una necesidad profunda se encendió un motor, un diálogo entre las olas y mis piernas, entre el mar y mi cuerpo. Entre Veracruz y mis sentidos. Una danza para celebrar la mujer que soy y la libertad que intento cultivar a cada paso, en cada experiencia. Una danza al amor y también al dolor que tantas atraviesan y así, entre hilos, me atraviesa también ahí al centro de mi ser, como agujas amargas. Y baile y baile y baile. Riendo y llorando. Y así, bailando, pedí por cada mujer adolorida. Por cada alma desaparecida. Porque todas bailemos libres en un mundo que nos abrace y nos valore. En un mundo que nos mire a los ojos con amor y respeto para simplemente ser.
Esta es una pieza que habita otro lugar. Pienso que es un espacio mucho más personal e íntimo. Este año quiero compartir esta pieza con mis hermanas y compañeras porque amo ser mujer y seguir descubriendo lo que habita ese universo en mi interior. Y queda tanto por aprender… Ese mundo adentro de nosotras es tan misterioso, tan a su forma, tan a su manera que no puedo parar y solo quiero seguir buscando y solo quiero seguir bailando la vida: bailando la vida.
Pido porque a toda mujer en este mundo se le permita bailar la vida y porque nosotras también nos lo permitamos, hermanas lindas. A todas les mando mi amor en esta bella canción que por fin pude cantar: Alfonsina y el mar.

NATALIA LAFOURCADE Shares Her Moving Version Of “ALFONSINA Y EL MAR”
MIAMI (March 26, 2021) – After her universally lauded production Un Canto Por México Vol. 1 won the 2021 GRAMMY® for Best Regional Mexican Album and the 2020 Latin GRAMMY® for Album of the Year, the singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Natalia Lafourcade today releases the audio and video of her interpretation of the song “Alfonsina y El Mar”.
Written in 1969 by the Argentine pianist Ariel Ramírez and lyricist Félix Luna, and made famous by the late Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa, this poignant standard which mourns the suicide of the poet Alfonsina Storni (1892-1938) has now been recorded by Natalia Lafourcade as a tribute to women.
In a missive to her fans, Natalia richly details her history with the song and the immense importance it has to her: “Ever since I was a kid I heard this song being played on our piano. My father performed it, as did my mother. I always tried to sing it, but it was difficult. I limited myself to simply listening to it and enjoying the effects that it produced inside of me. Every pore opened up when I listened to the song and my body got goosebumps when Mercedes Sosa took flight with her voice. ‘Alfonsina y El Mar’ is one of my all-time favorite songs.”
“During this month, I wanted to pay tribute to the lovely woman Alfonsina Storni and her tragic story. I also wanted to honor her life, femininity, strength, love, passion, sweetness and anger, and the pain that many women carry deep inside themselves, down to the depths of their souls.”
“On this song I wanted to dance for the sea, because dance is an artistic discipline that I have so yearned to practice for such a long time, without getting the chance to do so for one reason or another. I danced with the sea because if I didn’t do it, I felt I might just lose my sanity. As if coming from a profound need, a motor fired up, a dialogue between the waves and my legs, between the sea and my body. Between Veracruz and my senses. A dance to celebrate the woman I am, and the liberty that I intend to cultivate with each step I take and experience I have. A dance for love and also for the pain that so many women endure, and in that way, between threads, I endure it too at the center of my being, like bitter needles. And I danced and danced and danced. Laughing and crying. By dancing, I prayed for every woman who’s hurting. For every soul that has disappeared. Because all of us women must dance freely in a world that embraces and values us. In a world that looks us in the eyes with love and respect for simply being.”
“This is a musical piece that inhabits another place. I think that it’s a much more personal and intimate space. This year I want to share this piece with my sisters and companions because I love being a woman and continuing to discover the universe inside me. There is still so much to learn…that world inside us is so mysterious, so particular and bespoke that I can’t stop, and I only want to keep searching and I only want to keep dancing my life…dancing my life.”
