NATALIA LAFOURCADE presenta “CIEN AÑOS” junto a PEPE AGUILAR, primer adelanto de su álbum UN CANTO POR MÉXICO VOL. 2
MIAMI (16 de abril de 2021) – Tras la exitosa y galardonada producción Un canto por México vol. 1, la ganadora de dos Latin GRAMMY®️ por mejor álbum del año y mejor canción de regional mexicana y un GRAMMY®️ por mejor álbum de música regional mexicana, Natalia Lafourcade,se abre paso hacia el segundo volumen de su celebrado proyecto altruista en favor del Centro de documentación del son jarocho, con “Cien Años”, un clásico del cancionero mexicano al que sumó la compañía de Pepe Aguilar. Para ello, Natalia ha compartido:
Amigos y amigas, me siento profundamente feliz de anunciar que aquí tenemos el primer sencillo de Un Canto Por México Vol. 2.
Ha pasado un buen tiempo desde aquel día en que compartimos con gente maravillosa en el Auditorio Nacional de la ciudad de México, un concierto que nació con la intención de recaudar fondos para la reconstrucción del Centro de documentación del son jarocho y que, en un intento por nunca olvidarlo y dejarlo registrado para siempre, nos empujó a grabar las canciones que con detalle y cariño preparamos y entregamos.
La música de estos dos volúmenes nos ha acompañado durante el proceso de reconstrucción del CDSJ y se siente como una vida. Vinieron tiempos extraños y difíciles, en algún momento parecía que no lo lograríamos, pero aquí estamos, todo el equipo feliz cerrando los últimos detalles para pronto liberar UCPM Vol. 2: un proyecto musical que de la mano con una causa y una gran comunidad nos ha venido sorprendiendo con su vida, fuerza, espíritu y florecimiento. Hoy comenzamos un nuevo capítulo pues aquellas canciones que en fila se quedaron esperando su momento pronto serán liberadas para emprender su viaje y refugiarse en el corazón de la gente.
El video que hicimos para “Cien Años” es la historia de un gigante que vive enamorado de la luna y un pajarito que vive enamorado del gigante. Una cadena de amor no correspondido. Mientras el Gigante busca y sueña con que la luna algún día lo mire y lo quiera de vuelta, el pequeño pajarito sigue los pasos del gigante anhelando algún día ser visto y poder vivir juntos un amor pleno y lleno de encuentros bajo la luz de la luna.
La primera vez que escuché “Cien años” sentí que el mundo se detuvo. Escuché la voz de Pedro Infante tras un profundo suspiro, ese acorde de guitarra inconfundible que suena desde el primer instante. Pensé en el amor y cómo toda gira en torno a él, nos hace morir y nacer. Le da sentido a la vida. Ese sentimiento, esa voz, esa letra, esos violines, ese mariachi, esos paisajes, esa magia, ese México y el gran Pedro Infante…
Me pregunté si algún día podría cantar esa canción e interpretarla con tanto sentimiento. Pensé que una de las batallas personales más difíciles de sobrellevar es justo la de un amor no correspondido y esta canción me dio cobijo como una manta de alivio en momentos donde mi corazón se sentía perdido y sin hogar.
Hace algunos meses, mi gran amigo y colaborador Rocca Luis César y yo platicamos acerca del concepto creativo del videoclip de “Cien años”. Queríamos contar una historia con la que todos y todas pudiéramos sentirnos identificados. Salimos a buscar artistas, ilustradores y animadores para darle vida a nuestra imaginación. Finalmente, en este video vemos cómo la dirección e ilustraciones de Daniel Barreto y la realización de Juan Pablo López-Fonseca/Elefante, junto a un grupo increíble de animadores, llenaron de vida y movimiento nuestra historia. Se siente muy bonito compartir mundos y entrelazar la imaginación para una canción tan especial como esta.
Espero que la disfruten, pues para mi cantar a lado de Pepe Aguilar tremendo clásico y trabajar con artistas espectaculares es todo un deleite, un sueño y una enseñanza. Quiero agradecerte también a ti Pepe por tu soporte, tu cariño, tu talento y el legado tan importante que vas dejando en esta tierra. Tu presencia en Un canto por México será histórica.

Sobre Un Canto por México :
Un canto por México es un proyecto musical benéfico que Natalia Lafourcade destina a distintas causas, en esta ocasión es en favor de la reconstrucción del Centro de Documentación del Son Jarocho, que en 2017 se vio gravemente afectado. Además de contar con diferentes donantes y esfuerzos específicos, el pasado mes de noviembre bajo la bandera de este proyecto se realizó una presentación en vivo en el Auditorio nacional de la CDMX con un rotundo sold out que ofreció todas las ganancias a las obras de reconstrucción del CDSJ. Los discos Un canto por México volumen uno y dos son el resultado de la preparación en comunidad de la música de dicho concierto.
Acerca del Centro de documentación del son jarocho:
El Centro de Documentación de Son Jarocho (CDSJ) es un recinto fundado por Ricardo Perry y los Cojolites hace más de 19 años. Desde entonces sirve para formar músicos, bailarines y para capacitar en la industria textil, la alfarería, el arte culinario y otros saberes del pueblo veracruzano. El CDSJ ha fortalecido el tejido social y ha preservado tradiciones de la comunidad, además de ser el único lugar en México donde se documenta lo relacionado al son jarocho. Durante los sismos de septiembre de 2017 el CDSJ se vio gravemente afectado y Natalia Lafourcade decidió apoyar su reconstrucción. Convocados por la artista, Nido Social A.C., el Fideicomiso Fuerza México, la fundación Pienza Sostenible y el Taller ADG, entre otros dieron juntos los primeros pasos en el proceso. Así nace “Juntos por CDSJ” (@juntos_cdsj), enfocado a unir voluntades, recaudar fondos y canalizar toda ayuda para la reconstrucción del centro y del hogar de las familias que vivían ahí.

MIAMI (April 16, 2021) – After her critically acclaimed Un Canto Por México Vol. 1 (A Song For Mexico, Vol. 1) earned her Album of the Year and Best Regional Mexican Song at the 2020 Latin GRAMMYs®, as well as Best Regional Mexican Music Album at the 2021 GRAMMYs®, the singer and songwriter Natalia Lafourcade begins to reveal the second volume of her project which benefits the cultural center El Centro de Documentación del Son Jarocho. Today, she releases its first single “Cien Años” (100 Years), a classic of the Mexican songbook, in a duet with Pepe Aguilar.

Friends, I feel profoundly happy to announce that we now have the first single of Un Canto Por México Vol. 2.
It has been awhile since that day in November 2019 when we shared the Un Canto Por México concert with the audience at Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional. This performance was conceived with the intention of raising funds for the reconstruction of El Centro de Documentación del Son Jarocho (CDSJ). With the intent of never forgetting this concert and making sure it left its mark, we were motivated to record the songs we performed there with great care and affection.
The music of these two volumes accompanies us during the reconstruction work on CDSJ and it feels like a life’s work. Strange and difficult times overcame us, and at one point it felt like we wouldn’t get it done, but here we are. Our team is very pleased to be finalizing details in order to release Un Canto Por México Vol. 2 shortly. This project goes with a great cause, as well as a community that has surprised us with its life, its strength, its spirit and its flourishing. Today we begin a new chapter as the songs that have been queued up can now begin their journey and find refuge in your heart.
The video that we made for “Cien Años” is the story of a giant who is in love with the moon, and a little bird who is in love with the giant. A chain of unrequited love. As the giant dreams that the moon will one day look upon him and love him in return, the little bird follows the giant’s steps, yearning to someday been seen and experience a fulfulling love together with many encounters by the light of the moon.
The first time that I listened to “Cien Años” I felt the world stop. I heard the voice of Pedro Infante behind a profound sigh, that unmistakable guitar chord that begins the song. I thought about love and how everything revolves around it; it makes us die and be born. It gives life meaning. That feeling, that voice, those violins, that mariachi, that scenery, that magic, that Mexico and the great Pedro Infante…
I wondered if someday I would find the way to sing it with so much feeling. I was thinking about how one of the most difficult personal battles to overcome is unrequited love, and this song gave me shelter like a security blanket during moments when my heart felt lost and rootless.
Several months ago, my great friend and collaborator Rocca Luis César and I discussed the concept for the “Cien Años” video. We wanted to tell a story that everyone could identify with. We went searching for artists, illustrators and animators to carry out our vision. Finally, we see how the video and our story were filled with life and movement by the director and illustrator Daniel Barreto, and the producer Juan Pablo López-Fonseca/Elefante, along with an exceptional team of animators. It feels very beautiful to share worlds and intertwine our imagination for such a special song as this.
I hope you enjoy it; as for me, singing this outstanding classic by Pepe Aguilar’s side is an absolute delight, a dream and an education. Thank you Pepe, for your support, your affection, your talent and the paramount legacy that you are giving our homeland. Your presence on Un Canto Por México will make history.
About Un Canto por México:
Un Canto por México (A Song For Mexico) is an umbrella project that Natalia Lafourcade has used to support various humanitarian efforts. Currently it is focused on the CDSJ, which was severly damaged by the September 2017 earthquakes. Relying on a variety of donors and focused efforts, the project was furthered in November 2019 by Natalia’s sold-out, star-studded performance at Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional, with all proceeds going to the reconstruction of CDSJ. Her albums Un Canto Por México Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 are based on the music performed at that concert.
About El Centro de Documentación del Son Jarocho:
El Centro de Documentación de Son Jarocho (CDSJ) is a musical space in Jáltipan, Veracruz, founded by Ricardo Perry y Los Cojolites over 20 years ago. Since then, it has trained musicians and dancers, while also offering courses in textiles, pottery, culinary arts and other skills important to residents. The CDSJ has strengthened the social fabric and community traditions, as well as serving as Mexico’s repository for information about the area’s native son Jarocho musical style. In September 2017, the CDSJ was hit hard by a series of earthquakes, and Natalia Lafourcade stepped up to support its recovery. She teamed up with Nido Social A.C., Fideicomiso Fuerza México, Fundación Pienza Sostenible and Taller ADG, to create Juntos Por CDSJ (@juntos_cdsj), which recruits volunteers, raises funds and directs aid for the reconstruction of the center and the homes of families.
