SONY MUSIC LATIN y TIGER TURN PRODUCTIONS forman alianza para lanzar documental FANDANGO AT THE WALL
Bajo la producción ejecutiva de Quincy Jones, Andrew Young y Carlos Santana, producción de Kabir Sehgal y Doug Davis, y dirección de Varda Bar-Kar.
MIAMI (15 de julio de 2020) – Sony Music Latin se une con Tiger Turn Productions para lanzar el documental musical Fandango at The Wall. Este largometraje cuenta con la producción ejecutiva de Quincy Jones, Andrew Young, y Carlos Santana, producción de Kabir Sehgal y Doug Davis y dirección de Varda Bar-Kar.
Fandango at The Wall narra las vivencias del fundador de la Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra y múltiple ganador del GRAMMY® y Latin GRAMMY® Arturo O’Farrill; al igual que las del autor destacado en ventas por la lista de New York Times y múltiple ganador del GRAMMY® y Latin GRAMMY® como productor Kabir Sehgal, los cuales se encuentran trabajando en la producción de este disco que grabaran en directo alrededor del muro de la frontera entre México y Estados Unidos.
Las actuaciones de Fandango at The Wall son protagonizadas por legendarios músicos de son jarocho de la talla de Patricio Hidalgo, Ramón Gutiérrez, Wendy Cao Romero, Tacho Utrera, Fernando Guadarrama, Andrés Vega yMartha Vega. También incluye actuaciones especiales de la múltiples veces nominada al GRAMMY® y becaria de la fundación MacArthur Regina Carter; el historiador de CNN Douglas Brinkley; la actriz de la exitosa obra musical HamiltonMandy González, The Villalobos Brothers; el nominado al GRAMMY® Rahim AlHaj; y Sahba Motallebi.

“Este largometraje investiga las raíces de la música latina, y en especial el género afro-mexicano conocido como son jarocho. Esta obra llega a tiempo y es atemporal, además se trata de los asuntos migratorios entre Estados Unidos y México. Nos encanta unirnos a Sony Music Latin, una compañía que por mucho tiempo se ha mantenido a la vanguardia del contenido creativo por toda América”, afirmóKabir Sehgal, uno de los productores del filme.
Fandango at The Wall es inspirado por el festival anual de música llamado Fandango Fronterizo, el cual tiene como raíces el baile y canto del son jarocho para unir a los residentes del área fronteriza de Tijuana-San Diego. Antes del rodaje, Jorge Francisco Castillo, organizador del festival, acompañó a O’Farrill y Sehgal en un viaje inspirador por Veracruz, la cuna del son jarocho. Por 300 años, este género ha fusionado influencias indígenas, españolas y africanas. Llegando a los lugares más remotos de la costa de Veracruz, donde se reunieron con legendarios músicos y artesanos del son jarocho para invitarlos al festival. La jornada culminará con la celebración anual en la frontera, la cual promueve la paz y la unión. Este filme revela la hermosa música de la región a través de narraciones íntimas e imágenes cautivantes de los conciertos que destacan el poder de la música para romper barreras culturales.

MIAMI (July 15, 2020) – Sony Music Latin partners with Tiger Turn Productions on the feature music documentary Fandango at The Wall. From executive producers Quincy Jones, Andrew Young, Carlos Santana, producers Kabir Sehgal and Doug Davis, and director Varda Bar-Kar, Fandango at The Wall follows Multi-GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY® award winner Arturo O’Farrill, Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra founder; and Kabir Sehgal, New York Times bestselling author and Multi- GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY® award winning producer; as they prepare to record a live album at the U.S.-Mexico border wall.
Fandango at The Wall stars son jarocho legends Patricio Hidalgo, Ramón Gutiérrez, Wendy Cao Romero, Tacho Utrera, Fernando Guadarrama, Andrés Vega, Martha Vega. It includes special appearances by Regina Carter, Multi-GRAMMY® nominee and MacArthur Foundation Fellow; Douglas Brinkley, CNN Historian; Mandy Gonzalez, who performs in Broadway’s Hamilton; The Villalobos Brothers; Rahim AlHaj, GRAMMY® nominee; and Sahba Motallebi.

“The film explores the roots of Latin music and, in particular, Afro-Mexican music known as son jarocho. It is both timely and timeless, as it looks at the issue of immigration between the United States and Mexico. We’re thrilled to partner with Sony Music Latin, which has long been the vanguard of creative content throughout the Americas,” said Kabir Sehgal, a producer of the film.
Fandango at The Wall is inspired by the annual music festival called “Fandango Fronterizo,” which unites people in son jarocho’s song and dance on both sides of the Tijuana-San Diego border. Before recording, Fandango Fronterizo organizer, Jorge Francisco Castillo, took O’Farrill and Sehgal on an inspiring journey of Veracruz, Mexico, where son jarocho, the 300-hundred-year-old folk music called combining indigenous, Spanish, and African traditions originated. As they travel to the remotest regions of the Veracruz coast, they meet legendary son jarocho musicians and artisans and recruit them for the upcoming festival. Their travels culminate at the annual border celebration, promoting peace, and celebrating unity. The film introduces the beautiful music of the region through intimate storytelling and captivating concert footage and serves as a powerful reminder of music’s ability to bridge cultural barriers.
