MIAMI (12 de diciembre de 2021) – Sony Music Entertainment México se une a la pena que embarga a su familia, colegas y al pueblo mexicano, por el sensible fallecimiento del más grande ídolo de México, Vicente Fernández.   Vicente Fernández Gómez (1940-2021) es un símbolo de la cultura hispanoamericana. Su trayectoria de más de cinco décadas como cantante, productor musical y actor deja un legado de 25 películas y más de 100 álbumes que le hicieron merecedor de nueve Latin GRAMMYs®, tres GRAMMYs®, seis Premios Billboard, 14 Premio Lo Nuestro, el extraordinario premio “Persona del Año” otorgado por La Academia Latina de Grabación, múltiples discos de Oro, Platino y Diamante e, incluso, una estrella en el Paseo de la Fama de Hollywood.  Nacido en 1940, en Huentitán, Guadalajara, Vicente Fernández recibió su primera guitarra a los 8 años y en ese momento se fijó como meta el sueño de ser cantante, ambición que logró profesionalizar en 1966, cuando grabó sus primeros hits: “Tu Camino y El Mío”, “Perdóname” y “Cantina del Barrio”. A estas grabaciones le siguieron una serie de álbumes que con el paso de los años se transformarían en la histórica cantidad de 75 millones de discos vendidos y un exitoso cruce de barreras tecnológicas con más de 800 millones de streams en plataformas digitales y 4.4 mil millones de vistas en su canal de YouTube. Sin duda, uno de los máximos exponentes de la música mexicana con temas inolvidables en su voz como “El Rey”, “Por tu Maldito Amor”, “Volver, Volver”, “Estos Celos”, “La Ley del Monte” o “Cruz de Olvido”. Con su característico traje de charro actuó en los más grandes y prestigiados escenarios del mundo, entre ellos el Madison Square Garden, el Radio City Music Hall de Nueva York, el Auditorio Nacional y el Estadio Azteca, siendo este último el lugar donde realizó su último concierto público, frente a más de 80 mil personas en 2016. “Un Azteca en el Azteca”, registro de su despedida de los escenarios, es el testimonio de un artista que adoró como pocos a un público que en ningún momento dejó de ofrecerle su cariño.  Tras su retiro de los escenarios, el cantante lanzó sus álbumes Más Romántico Que Nunca y A Mis 80’s, este último nominado al GRAMMY® y ganador del Latin GRAMMY® a “Mejor Álbum Regional Mexicano” en la pasada entrega de los premios. Hoy México está de luto. El Frank Sinatra de la música ranchera, como se le catalogaba desde los noventa, se despide del público que honra la vida y obra del cantante supremo, el hombre que hizo las cosas a su manera. SONY MUSIC MÉXICO Mourns The Passing of Mexico’s Greatest Icon VICENTE FERNÁNDEZ

MIAMI (December 12, 2021) – Sony Music Entertainment México joins his family, colleagues, and the Mexican people in mourning the passing of the greatest icon of Mexico, Vicente Fernández.   Vicente Fernández Gómez (1940-2021) is a symbol of Hispanic-American culture. His career of over five decades as a singer, producer and actor encompasses 25 feature films and over 100 albums. He has been awarded nine Latin GRAMMYs®, while also being named 2002 Person of the Year by The Latin Recording Academy. He has won three GRAMMYs®, six Billboard Latin Music Awards and 14 Premio Lo Nuestro. His records have received numerous Diamond, Platinum and Gold certifications, and he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Born in 1940, in Huentitán, on the outskirts of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Vicente Fernández received his first guitar at the age of eight. From that moment on, he was focused on becoming a professional singer. He achieved his goal in 1966, when he recorded his first hits: “Tu Camino y El Mío,” “Perdóname” and “Cantina del Barrio.” He followed these up with a series of albums that would go on to sell 75 million units worldwide, and in the digital era, earn him over 800 million streams and 4.4 billion YouTube views. Without a doubt, he is one of Mexican music’s most important ambassadors, whose voice graces the definitive version of such timeless standards as “El Rey,” “Por tu Maldito Amor,” “Volver, Volver,” “Estos Celos,” “La Ley del Monte,” and “Cruz de Olvido.” Wearing his emblematic traje de charro, he brought the roots music of his country to the grandest and most prestigious stages in the world, including Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall, as well as Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional and Estadio Azteca. It was there in 2016 that he gave his last public concert for 80,000 fans. Preserved on the live release Un Azteca en el Azteca, this performance is a testament to an artist with an unsurpassed adoration for his audience, who always gave him its unwavering affection. After his retirement from touring, he continued to record and release new material on albums such as Más Romántico Que Nunca and A Mis 80’s, with the latter currently nominated for the “Best Regional Mexican Music” Album GRAMMY® after winning the 2021 Latin GRAMMY® for “Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album.” Today, Mexico is in mourning. Known worldwide since the 1990s as the Frank Sinatra of ranchera music, Don Chente bids farewell to the audiences who honor the life and work of this supreme interpreter, the man who did things his way.
